You might think that that there is little difference between house insurance and condo or townhouse insurance, but there is a big difference.
Insurance needs for condos and townhomes have one significant difference, typically you do not own the structure that you live in, just the inside space. You also do not have the same liabilities that come with a freestanding home, as injuries on the property, the shared or common areas, are normally covered by the Association’s insurance policy.
What you do have to cover is your personal property and and you will need to carry liability coverage for your own property space. In addition, you may want to consider supplemental insurance for valuables that are not normally covered under a typical policy. Examining and evaluating your needs and adequate levels of coverage is the first step in finding you the best insurance for your condo or townhouse.
In some cases, this may mean we will also review your Association insurance to ensure that there aren’t any gaps or limits that you may need protection for, or at least speak to your Association about.
